What is Racism?

Racism is the belief in the superiority of one race over another. Racist hate crimes have increased steadily the past several years. This is troubling, especially considering the history of our country. The treatment of Native American Indians in the 1800s was based on the belief that the "White" race was superior to Native Americans. Slavery in our country was based on the belief that Whites were superior to Blacks.

Our country is not the only one with this sort of history. A notable example is Nazi Germany under the leadership of Adolph Hitler, believing that Jews were inferior.

Every single person has been made in the image and likeness of God. Each person should be treated with great dignity and respect. We are all equal in the eyes of God.

We are not born racist. Racism is taught. Let us teach that we are all equal, that no race is superior to another race.
